How to Make Humus

One of the ancient appetizers in the Middle East is Humus. This appetizer has been eaten since 5000 years ago. At the beginning, it was a dish that only the royal family could afford, because the recipe was known to only a few rich people in Jerusalem. 2000 years ago, the emperor of Rome, Julius César, went to conquer Jerusalem in an excuse of a holy war, but the real reason for this crusade was to capture the chef who held the secret recipe and release it to the world. Today I will share with you the way Humus needs to be made, but I promise you will not need to conquer Jerusalem to enjoy this wonderful dish.
First, you will need to make sure you have all the ingredients, because timing is crucial. At the moment you will start making the Humus, you shouldn’t stop or delay in any step, or the soul of Julius Cesar will haunt you. You will need to have a can of Garbanzo beans, garlic, lemon, salt, Tahini sauce and virgin olive oil.
Some of the ingredients you can find in any grocery store, but the Tahini Sauce and the Virgin olive oil have to come from a special and secret place, in order to make sure they will be blessed by a religious person who had fasted for two days before preparing them. In Austin, you can find them north to the capitol in a small spice store. You will recognize the old seller by his 6 fingers in his right hand. If you will not buy it from him, the combination can produce a deadly dish that will kill you after 12 hours.
Finally, you need to put the Garbanzo beans in pot with water for a night. This will extract all the demons from them and will make them soft and safe. Put all the ingredients to the mixer. Mix it for 7 minutes and then put it in the refrigerator for 23 minutes.
Now, when it is ready, you can enjoy the best food the Middle East has to offer.
Of course you can’t tell anyone that you got the recipe from me. Preparing this dish is at your own risk; I will deny any connection to this recipe if something happens.

Bon appetite

Disney’s Black Skin Princess

A new animated movie, which has started to be produced by Disney co., has also started some controversies and disagreements among the critics with regards to the racial stereotypes. The movie, which was supposed to be called “The Frog Princess,” tells the story of Maddy, an African- American princess. The plot takes place at New Orleans in 1920.
The critics protest against the racists implies all along the movie. Foe example, the black skin princes is presented as a slave, who works for a spoilt, rich, white girl. Her name associated to black skin slave’s women’s nickname: “mammy”, at that period. In addition, there are some implies to the woodo tradition who present according the critics primitive way of life among the African – American society in the U.S.
Even though I can absolutely understand the criticism about the movie, I have also some remarks to think about. As a Jewish person and a woman, I recognize and deal with stereotypes almost every day. However, I think the stereotypes should be broken by revealing them. They are here, everywhere among us, and we should not bury them in the sand or ignore them. They are part of our life and it should be important for us to deal with them. In my opinion, the Disney movie is doing exactly what a normative society should do. It makes us talk about stereotypes, deal with them and express our feelings about them.
Dealing with society problems like racism has no other way but to talk about. We all ought to be aware to the dangerous if we will keep ignore them and pretend they are not here. After we will break them by deal with them, we hopefully will be in the right way to a better and justify world.

In The Name of Freedom of Expression

On February 11th, Fox News Radio hosted one of the most popular radio guys of America: Tom Sullivan. In his show, Sullivan took a call from one of his listeners who maintained to found similar outlines between one of the candidates for President of the United States: Barack Obama and the dictator Adolf Hitler. Regards to Obama speeches he claimed: “It harkens back to when I was younger and I used to watch those deals with Hitler, how he would excite the crowd and they'd come to their feet and scream and yell.” Sullivan seems to like that point: “wow, yeah, yeah”, he said enthusiastically and added: “I understand your point Ron, you’re absolutely right. The details will have to come out.”
To make this point stronger, Sullivan juxtaposed Hitler’s and Obama’s speeches. During the speeches Sullivan yelled and screamed in aim to mimic the crowd’s behavior. To the next listener, an American black man who argued against that comparison, Sullivan reaction was humiliating. He scoffed the listener saying he wouldn’t play those tapes again, and then he said: "Can I, please, one more time? Just one more time? Then I won't do it again. ... Until the next time."
I’ve always was a big supporter of the freedom of expression and I hold the opinion this is an important democratic tool that must be exists in any country all over the world. Still, in my viewpoint, some people didn’t find yet the different between slander and right use of it. That tape is an important example for how low can people get in the name of freedom of expression.
If we ignore for a while from the insulting of that comparison and look beyond of it, there is no basis in this argument. Examination of both sides speeches based on criteria like body language and rhetoric shows the big different between Hitler and Obama and beyond of all we must remember that Hitler based his “master race” by violent and cruel ways. He was a murder and a tyrant whom responsible for the most traumatic scar for the Jewish people. That scar will never stop to bleed.
As a Jewish and a human being this comparison was very difficult for me to hear. I don’t think that any person or politician can be compare to the devil named Hitler much less Obama. Obama acts like every other politician, so do they all can be compare to Hitler? I don’t think so. His supporter’s enthusiasm just can imply that he has the right skills for being a good leader.
In the future, I hope people will be smart enough to use freedom of expression carefully without make a bad feeling and to wake hard memories. We must all remember that the freedom to speak loud our thoughts doesn’t let us the permission to humiliate, insult and make people heard.

How to Study?

There is nothing more depressing then studying hard without any good results. Ask yourself: Are you study well? Do your grads satisfy you? If the answer is no, you might find this short guide helpful for you. Try some of the following advices in this studies guide and a great success is guaranteed.

That way your first step will be to manage your time. Education is your key to your future success. That’s why you’d better spend more time on studies then any other activity. Some researches show that the average study time should be 40 hours per week (including your class hours). This is quite a lot of time so you might consider making a list of priorities to find out what is more important to you, and how much time it’s taking from you each day. For example: if you are working in a full time job, you ought to ask yourself whether you really need the money, or it’s just an extra for your spoiled life style. If you can afford giving up some job hours, do it. You will gain your time investment in the future. Another movie or new jeans won’t help you to earn you future salary.
After reconsider your list of priority, this is the time moving to the next level: time at class; Check yourself by asking: “what am I doing on class time? It will help you to know if you are wasting time at class or not. Try to be super concentrated in class time. Listen to your professor and take some important notes. Never use your classmate’s notes! Do it by yourself! After taking them, you should reread your notes when you come back from school. It should help you to implement the material.
The next important step is to work in a clean and organize place. Take a look at your desk. How does it look like? If your desk is dirty and massy, you’d better start organize it. It could reduce the pressure and let you work in a peaceful environment. It surely could make your studies easier and helps you avoid unnecessary irritations. In addition you should pick a quite studies environment. If your own house is too noisy for you, you ought to pick another place to learn at, like the public library.
The last principle regards to your body. The old Greeks used to claim that “a sound mind in a sound body” is the optimum condition. Do you listen to your body? Healthy food, lot of water, good night sleep and some sport exercise should help you stay concentrated and could make your mind clear.
