On February 11th, Fox News Radio hosted one of the most popular radio guys of America: Tom Sullivan. In his show, Sullivan took a call from one of his listeners who maintained to found similar outlines between one of the candidates for President of the United States: Barack Obama and the dictator Adolf Hitler. Regards to Obama speeches he claimed: “It harkens back to when I was younger and I used to watch those deals with Hitler, how he would excite the crowd and they'd come to their feet and scream and yell.” Sullivan seems to like that point: “wow, yeah, yeah”, he said enthusiastically and added: “I understand your point Ron, you’re absolutely right. The details will have to come out.”
To make this point stronger, Sullivan juxtaposed Hitler’s and Obama’s speeches. During the speeches Sullivan yelled and screamed in aim to mimic the crowd’s behavior. To the next listener, an American black man who argued against that comparison, Sullivan reaction was humiliating. He scoffed the listener saying he wouldn’t play those tapes again, and then he said: "Can I, please, one more time? Just one more time? Then I won't do it again. ... Until the next time."
I’ve always was a big supporter of the freedom of expression and I hold the opinion this is an important democratic tool that must be exists in any country all over the world. Still, in my viewpoint, some people didn’t find yet the different between slander and right use of it. That tape is an important example for how low can people get in the name of freedom of expression.
If we ignore for a while from the insulting of that comparison and look beyond of it, there is no basis in this argument. Examination of both sides speeches based on criteria like body language and rhetoric shows the big different between Hitler and Obama and beyond of all we must remember that Hitler based his “master race” by violent and cruel ways. He was a murder and a tyrant whom responsible for the most traumatic scar for the Jewish people. That scar will never stop to bleed.
As a Jewish and a human being this comparison was very difficult for me to hear. I don’t think that any person or politician can be compare to the devil named Hitler much less Obama. Obama acts like every other politician, so do they all can be compare to Hitler? I don’t think so. His supporter’s enthusiasm just can imply that he has the right skills for being a good leader.
In the future, I hope people will be smart enough to use freedom of expression carefully without make a bad feeling and to wake hard memories. We must all remember that the freedom to speak loud our thoughts doesn’t let us the permission to humiliate, insult and make people heard.
